Cockroaches
Including Blattella germanica and Blatta orientalis
Cockroaches hide in cracks and around equipment. Not every brown insect is a cockroach: correct identification determines where to look and which measures are appropriate.

Identifying cockroaches
The German cockroach is light brown and has two dark longitudinal stripes behind its head. The Oriental cockroach is larger and darker. Nymphs may look different from adults.
Check not only for moving insects but also for possible egg cases and droppings. Beetles and outdoor cockroaches can be confused with indoor species.
Hiding places and spread
Warmth, food and moisture make spaces attractive. Look around refrigeration equipment, dishwashers, pipes and dark cracks. Do not move suspect boxes or appliances into other rooms.
In hospitality premises or shared buildings, coordination is important: activity in an adjoining space may remain out of sight.
What should you do, and how can you prevent recurrence?
Keep food sealed, remove grease and crumbs, repair leaks and check deliveries. Include hard-to-reach areas around equipment in the cleaning plan.
If cockroaches are suspected, have the species identified and investigate the source. Do not use multiple sprays indiscriminately: a targeted professional assessment is preferable to unfocused treatment.
