Fleas
Siphonaptera; often the cat flea
A flea problem requires attention to both the animal and its surroundings. Removing only visible fleas leaves potential developmental stages in resting areas unaddressed.

Identifying fleas
Fleas are small, dark insects that can jump. Their bodies are flattened from side to side. Itching in a pet or person does not by itself prove a flea problem.
Checking resting areas and the source
Check pet beds, rugs, floor edges and places where pets lie. A room previously occupied by animals may also be relevant. If a pet is involved, ask a veterinarian to assess the source and appropriate treatment.
Bed bugs do not jump. A photograph or collected insect can help distinguish between them.
What can you do yourself?
Vacuum resting areas, seams and floor edges regularly, and dispose of the contents carefully. Wash suitable textiles according to their care instructions.
Combine environmental measures with veterinary advice. Never use a product intended for another animal species on your own initiative. If activity persists, have the source and surroundings professionally assessed.
